Had to rewire a couple of controllers because they no longer require more than 15 amps total. The display will now draw less than 50 amps, where before LEDs, we were nearly at 100 amps. Got all the controllers hooked up to the network and powered up. Confirmed they’re all visible. Hooked up the mini arches (had a few strings with problems), and built up RGB mini tree number 7 (2 more to go).
It was a beautiful day today and we got a lot accomplished. Raised the mega tree hoop, the driveway arches, the new RGB pixel mini tree pole up as well as the hoop. All controllers are out. Will run power and network cables tomorrow.
Well, we have a lot of work to get started next week and what does the weather report show? Rain and more rain. Geez.
The weather is not cooperating as far as getting the lights off the house and getting the mega tree pole down. Won’t be too long though before it’s a distant memory until we begin planning for this year (probably in July).
We have had a couple of issues with the show this first week, but it looks like they are almost all worked out.
We’re looking forward to a great season this year. Hope you get a chance to come out and see the display. Be sure to leave a comment here or on our facebook page. Have a Happy Holiday! FYI- there is a link to a map on the ABOUT THE DISPLAY page.
New to the display this year will be an RGB mini mega tree! This tree will be made up of 600 RGB pixel nodes. These nodes are similar to what is used on the changing signs you see on the highway nowadays. There are so many possibilities with the RGB pixels it is mind boggling! Each pixel is capable of producing thousands of different colors. Add that with available tools to help with programming, and what you have is one amazing looking prop! We were running nearly 300 channels last year, this year there will be more than 2,000! Many more LED’s have been added this year, which brings us to over 60% LED.
Setup is scheduled to begin in less than a month, with the official turn on scheduled for Sunday, November 25 (though I’m hoping it will be earlier).
There are a couple of other surprises planned for this year, so keep checking back to see what’s on the horizon.
Forgot to put anything on the site this year about the facebook page! If you get a chance, check it out and say hello! Merry Christamas to everyone that’s come out this year.
Amazing what publicity on a local news program will do for traffic volume!
